A little snapshot of the Minwood Lane Drama School Screening 2023!!! It was a fantabolous morning, very proud of our Minwood Lane Actors - we filled the cinema with our smiling stars and their wonderfully supportive family and friends π€©β€οΈπ₯° As they say ‘It takes a village’ and that’s exactly what we have at Minwood Lane π Looking forward to continuing with the drama this term as we approach our Christmas showcase and work towards LAMDA exams! π₯π¬π #minwoodlane #solihull #dramaschool #letsgetthedramastarted
Drama Class ages 4-16yrs
Thursdays @ Lode Heath School
Reception - Year 2 (5-5.45pm)
Year 3 - Year 6 (5.50-6.50pm)
Secondary (7pm-8pm)
We focus on both stage and screen acting… also now that we are able to be back up and running properly post Covid they will take part in two performances one stage and the other screened at a local cinema.
If your child enjoys performing, getting creative behind the scenes and/or you are hoping to build their confidence and improve their public speaking please get in touch and we’ll arrange a trial session.
Whilst prepping today’s sessions I’ve been thinking about the past year and to be honest running a “business” that specialises in providing extra and co-curricular clubs, during Covid has been.... let’s just say it’s an ‘experience’ to say the least.
More importantly...
Drama is about connections, reactions, movement and more, my students have gone from performing face to face to being a head in a screen, raising virtual hands and muting themselves. So instead of having eyes at the back of my head and darting from one group to the next to give direction and support their skills, I have discovered a few new skills of my own...
- πThe Eye Flitter: Where I match the voice with the face somewhere on the screen within record timing.
- π€«Mute All: Definitely one of my favourites no need to repeat myself time after time asking for quiet so we can focus, I just press that button and shtumm all is calm.
- ππ½End Meeting For All: Which normally happens after everyone including myself π€£π€¦π½βοΈ has said good bye 10 to 15 times and have hand ache from waving!
Thankfully all has not been lost doing our sessions via ZOOM, because @minwoodlane they learn stage, screen and radio acting so they’ve had the opportunity to see themselves on screen every week, there are no arguments over screen time and who goes first hahaha!
I’ve also seen their ‘on screen’ confidence go from strength to strength. I am so proud of how resilient they’ve been and the new relationships formed between those that continued online.
The recent GOV announcement has given us HOPE and I can’t wait to get back in the box with them ALL... (in groups and socially distanced ofcourse π).
They really do bring so much joy, pride and giggles to my week! π @kamilla.woodburn
On 26th January 2020! We were celebrating the achievements of our Minwood Lane students at the award show! Although we are gutted that we didn’t spend the weekend celebrating this year, I’m sure they’ve all enjoyed the snow!! We took comfort in the magic of snow in a time of #covid! We WILL glam up, walk the red carpet and party again some day ππ₯³π₯°
It’s been a strange year at Minwood Lane! It started off so promising with the award show and party, we all enjoyed getting glammed up and received a mention in the local paper. Then came casting for our 2020 films that were supposed to be filmed and screened in the summer... but instead came lockdown! Although we weren’t able to meet for our sessions, I enjoyed seeing all your tongue twister Tuesday videos and what’s ya face Wednesday expressions.
Then came ZOOM, which birthed ‘The Adventures on Minwood Lane’ the first set of monologues we hoped to put out as an animation. Again Covid got in the way of that but you have hung in there, and I am so proud of the effort, resilience and dedication you’ve have put in. Together our optimism hasn’t wavered!
Instead ‘The Adventures on Minwood Lane’ has been launched as a book series, with the first character being Mrs Allinson at No.22 which has received a wonderful response and I look forward to seeing where it goes in 2021. All the characters created during lockdown will be introduced to the world and I am so excited!
Thank you to all those that have attended this year in person and virtually, thank you to all the well wishers, thank you to all those that have asked ‘when are we back?’, Thank you for all the videos, photos and voice notes... especially the parents that have had to relay my messages using drama terminology, becoming camera operators and IT specialists! (Hahahah)
2020 gave the world a drama school experience we’ve had to improvise, perform live, dabbled in method acting, perfected our spacial awareness and reacted dramatically to most if not every scenario.
THANK YOU for the support you’ve shown, I can’t wait to welcome you all back in 2021... so we can get the drama started again!
Hugs @kamilla.woodburn π₯°π

Day 1 of filming for the Toddlers at @norfolkhousenursery yesterday and what did we get... rain, snow, hail and high winds. However, ‘it did not blot thy “FILMING” as frost do bite the meads’ #WilliamShakespeare #TamingoftheShrew π€£ we brought the outdoors - indoors with our green screen! And as usual the children were amazing... they became little posers as soon as the camera came out!! #TheJoysOfLocationFilming #MinwoodLane #NorfolkHouseNursery #HarborneRoad #Shakespeare’sLittleIndividuals
