Equal Opportunities & Diversity

Minwood Lane Equal Opportunities & Diversity Policy

Introduction

Minwood Lane strongly believe that no individual be excluded from our sessions based on age, gender, race sexuality, class, health, family status, ethnic background, culture, religion or faith. It is our aim to aim to ensure that anyone who is a client, student, employee or volunteer has the equal opportunity to do so. We will introduce and implement measures to specifically combat direct and indirect discrimination within our company - as we will not accept it.

Minwood Lane is aware that unfortunately prejudice and discrimination still exists within our communities, therefore positive action is important to us in enabling the inclusion of all those wishing to access our services.
  • Minwood Lane services are open to all.
  • In regards to Minwood Drama students we understand that all families are different and where possible at our own discretion we may try to offer flexible payment systems to account for families with differing means. We are currently seeking advice on offering the option of paying for our services using Child Care vouchers.
  • Minwood Lane will only employ the best person for the role and treat all applicants fairly. No applicant will be rejected on grounds that contravene the above statement of intent.
  • Commitment to implementing the Minwood Lane Equal Opportunities & Diversity Policy forms part of the agreement to attend Minwood Lane in every capacity.
  • It is important that all students and staff are respected and their individuality and creativity recognised, valued and nurtured. Performance art activities give those involved the opportunity to express themselves and develop in a environment free from prejudice and discrimination. It allows those involved to explore, acknowledge and value similarities and differences between themselves and others through the medium of drama and expressive arts.
  • Discriminatory behaviour and remarks will not be tolerated. In the event it does occur we aim to respond sensitively to the victim(s) and help those responsible to overcome their prejudices.
  • staff, students and parent/guardians are welcome to bring attention to the attention of the Artistic Director any proposed improvements/incidents and/or criticisms.
Publicising Services

All promotional material will be distributed to other traditional community locations (locations, libraries, leisure centres and schools) and in specialist community settings (voluntary agencies, clubs and societies).

Posters and leaflets will be checked for appropriate language and images, ensuring they are not stereoptypes but a true representation of the services offered and the service users.

Procedures & Guidelines

Minwood Lane is aware that there may be incidences where verbal or physical abuse are directed either against staff and/or students. In the event of such an incident:

  •  It must be kept in mind that the urgency and nature of the response is dependent upon the severity of the case.
  • Verbal abuse which is not an immediate threat to the safety of the victim will be addressed as quickly as possible, preferably at the time of the incident - failing this definitely before the end of the session.
  • In any event it should be reported to the Artistic Director at the earliest opportunity, in writing. Then a decision will be made as to what action should be taken.
  • If serious verbal abuse , threats or actual physical abuse occurs, it must be reported immediately . Persistent abusive behaviour will not be accepted and the offender will be asked to leave the setting or removed by the local authority.
  • All written reports will be filed securely in a folder and retained for 3 years. there will also be passed onto the police if the incident requires such action.
